Seeing Strange Things
I woke up in the middle of the night and saw a strange man sitting on a chair in the corner of my room.
My entire body froze as I slowly pulled the sheet up over my eyes… as if not being able to see him would make him go away.
My heart raced as I wondered what his next move would be… was he going to shoot me, stab me or try to suffocate me?
I was probably 7 or 8 years old at the time. I still remember waking up the next morning to see a pile of clothes stacked up on that same chair with a hat thrown over the top.
If you squinted just right, that stack of mess could look like a man sitting in the dark.
Fear Is In The Mind
Years later I wrote a silly song about that experience.
I don’t remember all of the lyrics, but the first few lines went something like this:
At night when you’re in bed
Boogeyman is coming and he wants you dead
Somehow you just can’t sleep
Until you’ve covered both your feet
Fear Freezes You
To a little guy, that stack of stuff was enough to freeze me with fear. I was shut down cold. Unable to move.
Fear does that to adults too… frozen, shut down, unable to move.
The difference with adults is that some of us never get out of bed.
Fear keeps the sheets pulled up over our heads — hoping it all goes away.
Are you ready to thaw out and get back in the game of life?
