Good Leads

There’s a lot of places to buy “Hot Leads” these days, but are they really “Hot”… or “Good”… or can they even be considered worthy of the title “Lead?”

If you’re a roofer, plumber, or air conditioning contractor, you can buy leads.

If you’re an insurance agent, you can buy health leads, life insurance leads, and even annuity leads.

Mortgage brokers can buy mortgage leads. Real estate agents can buy “for sale by owner” leads. If you have a business, you can almost bet there’s somebody out there selling some type of lead just for you.

But are those leads going to be good, hot, and fresh leads?

Junk Leads

Call me crazy, but a list of names pulled from the phone book isn’t exactly what I would call a “Hot Lead”. Neither is a stack of names generated from people who registered to win an iPod or an iPhone. If I’m buying leads, I don’t want to contact a bunch of people that registered to win a new car at a kiosk in the mall.

Maybe not as bad, but that fresh list of people who recently moved to your city or bought a home in a specific neighborhood isn’t exactly going to turn into dollars without some additional work on your part. That may be a good place to start, but they certainly aren’t “Hot Leads”!

A “Hot Lead” is somebody who is ready, willing and able to buy your product or service. They’ve expressed a specific interest in what you do and have actively participated by raising their hand and saying, “Hey, I would like to know more about what you do!”

A “Hot Lead” is somebody who has specifically chosen to make themselves known to you. They’ve pulled back the curtains and revealed the fact that they are interested. They aren’t hiding anymore. They are interested.

A “Hot Lead” isn’t going to hand you their wallet. They aren’t going to lay down. You can’t charge whatever you want to charge. They aren’t going to blindly sign-up or settle for less than what they want.
